Overview Taos Junction group area is located in the Orilla Verde Recreation Area of Rio Grande del Norte National Monument. There is no long a shelter at this location. The location is equipped with a concrete pad, picnic tables, and fire pit. The group shelter is available year-round on a first-come first-served basis. The shelter is reservable from 11AM the day of a reservation until 10AM the following day.Recreation Recreational activities around Rio Bravo Group Shelter include class II and III boating, climbing, hiking, swimming (with a life jacket), fishing, wildlife viewing, and picnicking.Facilities There is no longer a shelter at this site. This site can accommodate a group of 40 visitors. It has 6 picnic tables, one fire ring/grill, access to bathrooms with flushable toilets, and beautiful views. There are no electrical hook-ups available. Taos Junction Bridge and boat launch site is a short walk away. A maximum of 15 vehicles are allowed under a single group reservation. Parking must NOT interfere with other visitors and must not be at additional campsites unless the additional sites are purchased. Camping at Taos Junction must be confined to the area around the group area or on the shelf below. Natural Features The Taos Junction Group Shelter is located along the Rio Grande, surrounded by the basalt cliffs of the Rio Grande gorge. Nearby Attractions Taos Junction Group Shelter is near river, hiking, and climbing access points within the Gorge. Other attractions nearby include the historic town of Taos, having restaurants and the conveniences of a small town, the UNESCO World Heritage Area of Taos Pueblo (please check Taos Pueblo for hours or operation, prices, and visitation requirements), and a variety of vineyards and a brewery located in the Embudo Valley.
