Camping Chronicles ("we", "us") operates the Camping Chronicles website at campchronicles.net and the Camping Chronicles mobile app (together, the "Service") — a community where campers share trips, photos, gear notes, and campground reviews. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
Information we collect
- Account information — username, email address, and a securely hashed password. Optionally a display name, bio, home region, profile picture, and banner photo.
- Content you create — posts, photos, comments, reactions, chronicles (trips and stops), campground reviews, communities you create or join, and direct messages.
- Social connections — friend requests and friendships, and your community memberships.
- Technical & security data — IP address, device and session information, and authentication tokens, used to keep your account secure, prevent abuse, and rate-limit requests.
We do not collect your precise device location, and we do not use third-party advertising or sell your personal information.
How we use your information
- To provide the Service — show your feed, posts, chronicles, messages, and friends, and respect the privacy settings you choose.
- To secure accounts, verify email addresses, reset passwords, and prevent spam and abuse.
- To send transactional emails (email verification, password resets, and account notices). We do not send marketing email without your consent.
How information is shared
Content you post is visible according to the privacy setting you choose (public, friends-only, or only-you). We share data only with service providers who help us run the Service:
- Resend — to deliver transactional email.
- Cloudflare — for content delivery, network security, and basic, privacy-respecting traffic analytics.
We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety, rights, or property of our users or the public. We never sell your data.
Your privacy choices
You are in control of your data:
- Access & edit your profile, photos, and content any time from your profile settings.
- Choose who can see each post and chronicle (public, friends-only, or only you).
- Manage privacy settings .
- Delete your account and associated data at any time from your account settings → Delete account. In the mobile app, account deletion is available in Settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your posts, photos, messages, and profile.
- Questions or requests — email us at [email protected] and we'll help you access, correct, or delete your data.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete your personal data and content, except where we must retain limited records to comply with legal obligations or resolve disputes.
Security
We protect your data with industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information.
Children
The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We'll revise the "Last updated" date above and, for significant changes, provide notice within the Service.
